MLM Success: A Network Marketing Strategy For New Distributors
Are you struggling in your MLM business? You are not alone: 94% of distributors never make a profit. I am inviting you to find out the truth about the MLM industry, the reason why so many are failing, and the way out of it. You will have to spend some time, but it will be time well spent.
Traditional MLM Strategies Present Three Challenges For Success With MLM
There are three marketing issues that are putting the new distributor at a disadvantage:
- An emphasis on marketing the opportunity
- Outdated marketing approaches
- Lack of business income
For the first issue: Money is only made from the sale of products. Therefore, most members of your MLM organization must be product users, without a sizeable downline. Depending on the compensation plan, about 94% of all members in your MLM organization are not able to to make a profit.
For example, my own MLM company requires you to have a downline of at least 16 associates to reach the first leadership level. At that point, your monthly bonus check comes to at least $129, which covers your monthly autoship.
If you have less than 16 associates, you receive a smaller commission percentage, and your commission check is at most $20.16 Thus, only 1 in 17 members (5.9%) is able to make a profit, leaving 94.1% of all members at a financial loss.
This is acceptable, if your members joined for the sake of the product. But it means unavoidable failure if most of them joined with the intention of making a profit.
For the second issue: To build an organization of just 20 to 30 clients, you need to approach thousands of people. You don’t have that many in your warm market. Even if you did, you don’t have enough time to deal with them one on one.
For the third issue: To build momentum, it is essential that you are running your business with a profit early on. Your profit is the measure of success for your marketing campaigns. In running your business, you will incur a substantial cost of advertising. To make a profit, your income from a new customer must exceed the cost of acquiring him. For this, you need to constantly test and improve your message and tools of delivery.
The conclusion: You need a strategy that allows you to market products to the public effectively. Such strategies are called direct marketing. This is a skill and art that you can and must learn. And this brings us to the key ingredient for success in MLM
You Are The Key To Your Success In MLM
Your success in MLM depends not on your product or your opportunity, it depends only on you. To build a successful business, you need these three things:
- Marketing skills
- The mindset of an entrepreneur
- Confidence as a leader and expert in your market
Marketing skills require insider knowledge that is never fully revealed in public. You can gain this insider knowledge through trial and error, over a long period of time and at a high cost. The better way is to get it by training from successful marketers.
The mindset of an entrepreneur requires a personal decision from you to take full responsibility for your life and for your business success.
Confidence comes only through practice and the experience of success. Your confidence as a leader is what will motivate your prospects to become customers. This your leadership and positioning as an expert are even more important than your technical knowledge.

Hey Kai,
This is a nice blog set up you have here. Very clean theme and is organized well. I appreciate your perspective on the current state of MLM and where it is going. I feel the same way. Traditional strategies may not be effective in today’s environment. It’s crucial for us our entrepreneurs to be innovative and capitalize on new opportunities. Thanks for what you are doing for MLM.

Great blog and article Kai, very clean!
I couldn’t agree with you more. An individual’s own personal marketing skill-set and a willingness to learn HOW to market are critical factors to deciding the level of a person’s success in this industry. Yes, “old school” works for a few people, but for me personally, I failed miserably when I first got involved in mlm back in the late 90’s and attempted to only build my first business with my warm market. It was only when I DECIDED to become a student of direct marketing and student of personal development (this industry) that I started to see success.
I’m looking forward to stopping by your blog again soon!
